How to Plan For Your First Romantic Getaway Together

Deciding to take your first vacation together as a new couple on a romantic getaway can be nerve racking – there are so many things to think about, and the smoother you can make the booking process the better! We want you to enjoy your first vacation away together!

Below we’ve outlined a list of tips and things to remember during the holiday and booking process that will hopefully mean your first holiday away together is as romantic and as fun as possible!

How long have you been together?

First of all, think about how long you’ve been together as a couple. You’re clearly getting serious, if you’re planning a holiday away together – but if you’ve only been together two weeks then booking a round-the-world trip might not be the best idea.

What are your shared interests?

Think about this when booking your holiday. Perhaps your partner hates sitting around on a beach all day (in which case try and find somewhere that suits them too). Sit down together and discuss what kind of things you’d like to do on holiday. If you like to keep busy and experience new things, then a city or skiing break is a great idea as you’ll never run out of things to do or things to talk about. If you both have busy jobs and want to spend the holiday relaxing – then opt for a beach holiday in a chilled out resort. If you can’t decide, then go for somewhere that offers the best of both worlds.

What will you pack?

For a romantic getaway don’t underestimate the importance of packing. It depends where you’re going of course, but as a general rule you’ll want to pack versatile items that you can dress up or down. You won’t want to pack too much, but selecting your items well is important. If you’re a fan of dresses then picking some lovely day dresses and evening dresses is a great choice, and a simple pair of black or nude heels should suffice for evening wear (as they’re neutral colours and will go with anything). Don’t forget some sexy lingerie too; going away together is the perfect excuse to surprise him!

Don’t forget entertainment!

If you’re going on a beach holiday (or a relaxation holiday) you’ll want to pack some entertainment such as reading or an iPod (for music). A lovely gesture, if you’re a mushy romantic, is to purchase your partner a personalized bound copy their favorite book to read whilst away and surprise them with it. It’s a lovely gift idea and will mean they’ll always have something to remember the holiday with.

Don’t sweat the small stuff

Don’t get worried about little things if they go wrong while you’re away. Remember you’re there to enjoy yourself and to bond with your partner, so if you get sun burnt or if your boyfriend breaks your sunglasses – then just let it slip. Paris, France

Don’t Overlook the Local Passion

Many countries and cities have unique elements to them that get stereotyped / used as an image of that place and it’s people. However, the local passion for music is often overlooked. Places of Cultural Expression – Belfast

The Belfast Empire Music Hall

Located on Botanic Avenue, the Belfast Empire Music Hall (picture on top) is widely believed to be the best live music venue in the city. Originally a church, the hall is now home to regular live gigs by some of the best bands and musicians around as well as regular comedy shows. The hall opened its doors way back in 1987 and since then has had many a famous foot pass through it. Some of the most renowned bands to have played here include Snow Patrol, Lambchop, REM and Ash and the hall is also a popular hotspot with many local bands that play regular gigs to loyal fans. Salsa nights, pub quizzes and live football can also be enjoyed during the week.

Black Box

Black Box is located in the Cathedral Quarter of the city and has the capacity to host everything from a small poetry recital to a large music gig. Although not your standard live music venue, Black Box is a popular venue especially with the locals mainly due to its laid back atmosphere and non-pretentious setting which is hard to find in a live music venue these days. Ulster Hall

Located in the heart of Belfast on Bedford Street, Ulster Hall is a true treasure in Northern Ireland. Originally built in 1862, this is one of the oldest live music venues in the city and one of the most popular. A variety of top acts have performed here over the years including Kasabian, Elton John and the Rolling Stones. Machine Head and the Lost Prophets are set two be two of the major gigs this year. The Hall also plays home to a number of comedy and literary nights so you are sure to find a performance that interests you.

Belfast Waterfront

Belfast Waterfront is, yep you’ve guessed it, situated on the waterfront. It is a short walk away from Belfast Central train station and makes a great venue for a night out with friends. The venue is home to a number of different acts including music gigs, psychic nights and comedy shows and has been host to many a popular band. Some of the most well-known artists to have played here include Tori Amos, Van Morrison, Tom Jones and Ronan Keating. Established in 1997, Belfast Waterfront has also welcomed many famous visitors including the Dalai Lama, Bill Clinton and the Prince of Wales.

The Limelight

The Limelight is a popular live music venue located on the corner of Ormeau Avenue in the city. This is the place to go if you like rock and indie music and the venue has been host to a number of bands over the years including Oasis, The Arctic Monkeys, Primal Scream, The Scissor Sisters, Franz Ferdinand, Blur and the Manic Street Preachers. A variety of popular bands are playing at the venue in 2012, amongst them Katatonia and Machine Head – tickets are still available for most events. The venue also plays host to a number of club nights throughout the week.

You’ve Got to Love the Locals

If (for some reason) you can’t get to any of these magnificent venues, take in a street performance or two. No – not some guy sprayed silver, standing still for ages but, a genuine member of the public knocking out a traditional tune. These are not the usual type of alfresco musicians – people actually want to stand round, listen – join in with the tune being distributed to shoppers, tourists and passers-by. You can’t deny the feel-good-factor you will have after taking in this pleasure.

Romantic Getaway Vacation in the Caribbean

Many couples escape the monotony and stress of everyday life by enjoying romantic getaways in the Caribbean. Stay at luxurious beachfront resorts or retreat to the privacy of Caribbean villas. Explore the scenic landscape of the islands on foot, by horseback, ATV or car. Swim in secluded coves surrounded by palm trees or lush rainforests. Valentine’s Day in the Caribbean might include viewing the colourful underwater world filled with marine life while snorkelling or scuba diving. The opportunities and activities are endless, but vary from island to island.

Barbados

Located in the archipelago of the Lesser Antilles islands, Barbados offers some unique attractions that provide an interesting way to spend quality time with a significant other. Stroll through the picturesque Flower Forest Botanical Gardens. The site features over 50 acres of tropical flowers, plants and trees, along with a natural wild garden. Paved paths meander through the tropical setting, dotted with ornamental benches along the way.

In the central part of the island, in the community of Speightstown, lies the Harrison’s Cave. A tram ride through the caverns provides the perfect opportunity for snuggling while viewing the crystal clear ponds, flowing water and miles of unusual formations.

Cayman Islands

The Turtle Farm is a popular attraction and provides guests the chance to swim with young turtles, as they learn survival skills in the open water. The location also has a tropical rainforest environment with scenic walking trails where visitors enjoy viewing the many native exotic plants and 53 species of butterflies that call the island home. Interact with marine life at dolphin cove or indulge in a horseback ride along the beach.

Georgetown is one of the larger island cities. Enjoy a fine meal at any of the local restaurants, go shopping or experience the nightlife at one of the local bars or nightclubs. The city also offers tours of the local brewery or the rum distillery.

Jamaica

Couples looking for a unique romantic getaway often travel to the south coast of Jamaica, the location of the YS Estate. The proprietors of this cattle/horse ranch allow visitors to enjoy the splendour of the YS Falls. Pack a quick romantic lunch and take in the view of this seven tiered cascading water fall. This secluded location also offers guests the opportunity of taking a dip in the vast wading pool, fed by underground springs. For those looking for adventure, the location also offers canopy and river tube rides.

Rent canoes or kayaks and find a secluded location to while away the hours in complete privacy. Journey to the top of the cliffs overlooking the beach and revel in a romantic evening in a mood set by the setting tropical sun.

St. Lucia

Besides pristine beaches and crystal clear water, this jewel in the Caribbean features mountainous terrain covered in lush rainforests. Blackbeard and other notorious pirates also favoured the island and many locations acquired names from this history of swashbuckling. Adventurous couples might enjoy a thrill seeking opportunity that offers guests the chance to see the top of the world on an aerial ride followed by zip line rides that traverse the treetops and end with a guided rainforest hike.

The island of Cyprus is home to a large number of historical landmarks and cultural attractions, but there is also plenty to create romantic atmosphere for couples on romantic getaways to Cyprus. As the third largest island in the entire Mediterranean, it should come as no surprise that there are thousands of private places to explore as a couple, beaches to share intimate moments and restaurants offering private candlelight dinners. For a romantic holiday to Cyprus, use this as your guide for accommodations, dining, nightlife and attractions that will appeal to couples.

Romantic Accommodations:

With hundreds of different hotels and resorts on the island, couples will have plenty of options when it comes to choosing accommodation on Cyprus. For a more private location, avoid the heavily concentrated tourist area of Ayia Napa, opting instead for a quieter destination. For the ultimate romantic getaway, consider renting private villas in Cyprus. These can range from small houses in the Troodos Mountains or even large beach-side villas, depending on your budget for the trip. This is often more romantic that a sterile and busy chain hotel.

Romantic Nightlife:

After dinner, there is no shortage of fun ways to spend the evening with your loved one. The beaches are typically very safe in Cyprus, meaning a night stroll on the sand is a great activity. Other options include many bars and lounges on Larnaca-Dhekelia Road, which can be less busy than the vibrant clubs. Find a booth and sip a nightcap with your loved one at one of these watering holes.

Cyprus is known for its many historical and cultural attractions, as well as beautiful beaches that can be ideal for a romantic couple on a getaway. Visit the charming old village of Lefkara, where many of the churches are nearly one thousand years old. Stroll hand in hand through the trails around the village and imagine what life was like in centuries past. Beach lovers will want to head straight to the sandy shores of Limassol, where a few minutes’ walk can get you away from the crowds and into a private spot. The island of Cyprus is also home to several wineries offering private tours and even overnight stays for couples.
